Lebanon holds general election for first time in 9 years

Polls absorb opened in Lebanon, kicking off the country’s first parliamentary elections in almost a decade.

Sunday’s vote sees 583 candidates compete for the 128 seats in parliament by 77 rival lists, spread across 15 districts.

Under the terms of a brand unusual electoral law that launched proportional illustration, voters will be casting two votes; one for a list of candidates and one for a single preferred candidate.

There are as much as 3.eight million registered voters within the country. Better than seven hundred,000 voters will be casting their ballots for the principle time.

About 6,800 polling stations had been opened across the country, beneath the presence of the gendarmerie.

Voting will continue unless 19:00 native time (16:00 GMT).
