Gmail.com is rapidly getting its first redesign in seven years, and with that new gawk comes some new capabilities. We web already heard about new aspect panels for Google Calendar, Google Defend, and Google Initiatives, and now we’re getting observe of but every other new feature: self-destructing emails.

TechCrunch has screenshots detailing the feature from the pre-open model of Gmail. In the attach window, there could be a brand new lock icon referred to as « Confidential Mode. » When clicked, a message pops up announcing, « Alternate solutions to forward, download or reproduction this e-mail’s contents and attachments shall be disabled. » The sender can then decide an expiration date for the electronic mail, and optionally require an SMS passcode to commence the electronic mail. The attach window furthermore switches to a blue colour plan, letting the user know they’re no longer marvelous sending a long-established message.

Searching for to inject a brand new feature into the electronic mail long-established is a difficult nut to crack. Since confidential emails are no longer a aged e-mail feature, how can they work for folk who don’t seem like Gmail customers? Or what happens if you web right of entry to Gmail by POP/IMAP/SMTP and don’t seem like using the legit consumer? Google’s resolution for this looks to be to send a link. « This message used to be sent with Gmail’s confidential mode » the sent e-mail reads. « You may perchance be in an area to commence it by clicking this link. »

TechCrunch’s test e-mail used to be sent from a brand new Gmail user to a user on the usual Gmail consumer, so a link used to be fashioned. Confidently, if each participants are on the redesigned model of Gmail, the message will marvelous appear, and the Gmail consumer can deal with the confidentiality requirements within the background.

Google says Gmail.com’s capable redesign shall be out « within the impending weeks, » and we hope to listen to more about it at Google I/O.
